Interview with Jellotonin

Interview by Natalia Rocafuerte

Jellotonin (AKA Angelica Lopez) is an audio visual artist. “I spend lots of time in my head. Well, all of it, really.”

How is your winter going, where are you located?
My winter is going absolutely wonderful! I’d say it’s the best one yet :) Just moved to a bigger house, finally have a day job that is tolerable, and the weather is amazing over here in Cactus Country (Tucson, AZ) right now.

How did you create this piece?
The music I made all with my Nord Lead A1 and the visuals I made with one of my Max/MSP patches.

What drives your experimental work?
I’ve never been much of a talker. Even my own partner tells me I should talk more (and we are literally together 24/7). Art has given me a way to express myself in ways I have never been able to with words.

Where’s your hometown?
Tucson, AZ

What are you currently inspired by? Listening to something?
For the first time in my life I am inspired by myself! When I look back on my recent work and the progress I’ve made as an artist it makes me excited to continue experimenting.

Top 5 songs as of right now, in no particular order:

Daily Battles -Thom Yorke

Drumset -Fiona Apple

No Name #1 -Elliott Smith

For Her -Fiona Apple

Memory Lane -Elliott Smith

Would you care to share your last dream?I’m in a bedroom about to plug in my PS2 to play. I start a game and then feel scared out of nowhere. Two girls my age (I guess roommates?) walk in the room and say something like, “Why are you in here? Don’t you know this is the witch’s room?”..Then I try to walk out of the room but I’m getting pulled back by some invisible hand. I keep trying and eventually pull myself out into the hallway and away from the witch spirit thing. One of the other girls gets stuck in the room and I can hear her screaming. I want to walk away but I feel bad leaving her there. I walk back into the hallway and see her being lifted to the ceiling. I start walking to the room to help her but also try to wake myself up. It works and I don’t have to deal with the bs anymore lol.
